SAPPADA IN WINTER – DISCOVERING THE SAPPADA CARNIVAL 31 January - 7 February 2027
With SappadaSki excursions you can enjoy this special day in complete safety, choosing from a wide range of snow experiences: fun on the ski slopes, the thrills of the Nevelandia snow park, a snowshoe hike through woods and snow-covered landscapes, or a pleasant walk discovering Sappada Vecchia, its characteristic hamlets and its traditions.
There will also be the chance to savour local food and wine specialities and to immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, in the heart of the Dolomites.
Making the visit even more special is taking part in the Plodar Vosenòcht, which is celebrated on the three Sundays before Lent. During this period, Sappada's ancient hamlets come alive with masks, colours, music and merriment, giving life to a tradition handed down through the generations. The stars of the show are the distinctive hand-carved wooden masks, through which the different figures of Sappada society are portrayed with irony: the Sunday of the Poor (Pèttlar Sunntach), the Sunday of the Peasants (Paurn Sunntach) and the Sunday of the Lords (Hearn Sunntach).
The undisputed symbol of the Carnival is the Rollate (Ròllat), the striking masked figure who, with his imposing costume and characteristic cowbells, accompanies the festivities and represents one of the most authentic expressions of Sappada's folklore.
By putting yourselves in the hands of our staff, you can discover Sappada to the full, through snow, nature, sport, gastronomy and traditions, letting yourselves be swept up by the energy of the Carnival and the magic of its ancient masks.
An experience to enjoy and share, which will be much more than just a day in the snow: it will be a journey into the heart and identity of Sappada.
